At its 24th meeting of 19 June 2009 the Committee on EU Affairs adopted, in relation to the proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on combating late payment in commercial transactions (Recast) Implementing the Small Business Act, the following Position of the Republic of Slovenia:
Slovenia agrees with the positions enshrined in the proposal for a Directive on combating late payment in commercial transactions (hereinafter referred to as: the Directive), as it has a significant impact on strengthening economic and financial capacities of, in particular, small and medium-sized enterprises, and thus on the competitiveness of the Slovenian economy. During the adoption of the Directive, Slovenia will strive towards solutions which do not significantly infringe upon the structure of contractual obligations as defined by the Code of Obligations, and which at the same time encourage the observance of the basic payment period of 30 days as well as adequate sanctions for violations of payment periods.
