Information on parliamentary scrutiny

This proposal was considered at the meeting of the Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture on 6th March 2012. It is proposed that this proposal warrants further scrutiny. In that context, the Committee has asked: • the Department's considered views on each of the 4 Pillars outlined in the Proposal and the areas of a) greatest potential for Ireland and b) potential difficulty for Ireland under each Pillar; • regarding the Smart Green Fisheries Pillar, to give details of arrangements that will be in place to support fishermen in general and particularly those who can’t reach the requisite standard with their existing vessels and the Department’s views on the proposed measures for Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and discard of fish; • the Department’s views on the proposed funding available for modernising vessels and the capacity of fleet to comply with the requisite kilowatts proposed; • the Department’s views on the proposed supports for Smart Green Aquaculture with particular reference to funding new technologies such as Closed Contamination Systems; • regarding the Sustainable and Inclusive Territorial Development Pillar, the Department’s views on how it will a) be rolled out and b) the potential for coastal communities to benefit from the proposed measures; and • to be kept informed of all developments regarding the Proposal.
