The EU committee as well as the Committee on Internal Affairs and the Committee on Legal Affairs criticize the wide application of the proposed directive. According to the committees the COM ist not allowed to harmonize the domestic data processing in criminal procedures.

The plenary adopted the recommended reasoned opinion on 30 March 2012.
