Passed on to the Committee on Health. The document has been discussed at its 8th meeting of 14 and 20 February 2013.

And at it's 53rd meeting of 1 March 2013 the Committee on EU Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the following Position:

Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States concerning the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco and related products which includes important elements of tobacco control and of related products, and contributes to the general objectives aiming to ensure proper functioning of the market in this area and to pursue to a certain extent the objectives of public health. In this respect it particularly supports the extension of the product scope to nicotine containing products and herbal products for smoking, the introduction of larger warnings on cigarette and roll-your own tobacco products, stricter reporting obligations, the prohibition of products with characterising flavours, the maintenance of the ban of the smokeless product snus and the prohibition of certain additives in tobacco products.

In the areas of labelling, ingredients reporting, prohibition of certain flavours and additives, cross-border distance sales and regulation of nicotine containing products, the Republic of Slovenia will strive to achieve some of the stricter solutions with an aim to ensure the highest possible level of protection of public health and to simplify the implementation and control and reduce the administrative burden.
