Information on parliamentary scrutiny

The Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Food and Environment discussed the proposal at its 35th meeting of 21 March 2014.

And at it's 101st meeting of 21 March 2014 the Committee on EU Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the following Position

The Republic of Slovenia supports the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the cloning of animals of the bovine, porcine, ovine, caprine and equine species kept and reproduced for farming purposes.

The Republic of Slovenia believes that the suspension of the cloning technique and of imports of animal clones for farming purposes strikes a reasonable fair balance between animal welfare, citizens' concerns, and the interests of farmers, breeders and other stakeholders involved.

The Republic of Slovenia advocates the opinion that –¬ considering that a temporary prohibition of the use of clones is proposed – a regulation would be a more suitable form of legislative act.
