The document No. 8175/18 was submitted to the Chamber of Deputies on 4/20/2018.

The Committee for European Affairs decided on 5/9/2018 by its Resolution No. 77 to deliberate on the document and appointed the Member Mr. Jaroslav Bžoch as rapporteur.

The Committee for European Affairs at its 14th meeting on 6/20/2018 by Resolution No. 116

1. welcomes the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on strengthening
the security of identity cards of Union citizens and of residence documents issued to Union citizens and their family members exercising their right of free movement (Council Code 8175/18, COM(2018)212 final);

2. supports partly the Goverment’s Framework Position from 5 June 2018, where evaluates positively all measures aimed at strengthening the quality of control at the external Schengen border;

3. supports the Proposal of the European Commission, which is trying, historically for the first time, to set minimum uniform rules on the security features of EU citizens' identity documents and residence permits issued to EU citizens and their family members, and fills the criticized last security gap in the field of documents;

4. rejects the overal introduction of biometric features at a time when only 15 Member States are required to have an identity card.
