The Bundesrat highly welcomes the concept for an integrated approach to cultural heritage for Europe, presented by the Commission. In its view, libraries and archives should be systematically included in this approach. By the same time, it supports strongly to make accessible by the largest possible the various supporting tools, foreseen in European instruments as the European structural fund, to cultural heritage.

In the Bundesrat's view, cultural heritage carries out important support also for economic growth and social cohesion. In this context, it expresses its lack of understanding for the restrictive use of EFRE-fund for cultural heritage projects. It admonishes the Commission to respect the premises of EU structural funds also for cultural projects.
