Information on parliamentary scrutiny

On 29 January 2020, the Dutch Senate received a letter from the Vice-President of the European Commission presenting the Work Programme 2020.

On 4 February 2020, the European Affairs committee will discuss the working method for the adoption of the Dutch Senate's 2020 European Work Programme and the draft planning and organisation of the selection process.

On 11 february 2020 the Committee of Senior Members agreed on the working and selection procedure for the European Working Programme 2020 from the Dutch Senate.

On 3 March 2020, the Members of the Dutch Senate received a technical briefing by European Commission officials on the 2020 Work Programme.

On 12 May 2020, the European Affairs committee decided to take note of the letter from the minister of Foreign Affairs on the adaptation of the Commission Work Programme 2020. The committee will put the adjusted work programme and the State of the European Union 2020 on the agenda for discussion in the commission when it is published.

Following the publication of a revised annex with European proposals related to the corona crisis and the limited remaining time for the continuation of the regular selection procedure leading to a European Work Programme of the Senate for 2020, the European Affairs committee decided on 2 June 2020 to propose to use the bulk list of European proposals from the Work Programme 2020 proposed by the political groups as a starting point for an informal priority list of the Senate.

On 9 June 2020, the informal list of the priorities from the Dutch Senate for the European Commission's Work Programme 2020 was adopted.

On 16 June 2020 the committee took note of the letter from the minister of Foreign Affairs on the amended Work Programme 2020.
