The Bundesrat welcomes that the Commission's initiative pursues an entrepreneurial approach to thinking and acting. European industrial and competition policy must be reassessed in the light of the Covid-19-pandemic.

The Bundesrat shares the Commission's view that to uphold Europe's industrial leadership, a new industrial strategy will help deliver on three key priorities: maintaining European industry's global competitiveness and a level playing field, at home and globally, making Europe climate-neutral by 2050 and shaping Europe's digital future. The Bundesrat emphasizes in this context that these priorities can only be achieved through a partnership-based governance approach and therefore welcomes the Commission's approach to work closely with an inclusive and open Industrial Forum consisting of representatives from industry, including SMEs, big companies, social partners, researchers, as well as Member States and EU institutions.

The Bundesrat welcomes the Commission's announcement on promoting important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs).

It also welcomes the Commission's constant efforts to establish fair conditions of competition.

The Bundesrat shares the Commission's view that the growth strategy presented in the form of the European Green Deal concept should remain a guiding principle in the reconstruction of European industry.
It regards the green hydrogen economy as an important pillar of the New Industrial Strategy.
